Greenworks 60V Hedge Trimmer Offers Simple Functionality and Excellent Performance
If you’re following along with our Greenworks lawn care coverage, you’re already aware that the 60V line is my favorite of what they offer. If you just landed here to check out the Greenworks 60V Hedge Trimmer, well, this is my favorite line that Greenworks sells. Now that we’re past that somewhat awkward introduction, let’s talk about the hedge trimmer.
Editor’s Note: There is an updated 26-inch model now available. As soon as we’re able to fully test it, we’ll update our review.
- Rotating handle
- Simple operation
- Solid cutting performance
- Bulky motor/battery housing thanks to side entry battery
Greenworks 60V Hedge Trimmer Performance
Greenworks goes with a 24″ dual action blade for this hedge trimmer. The “dual action” designation simply means that it is able to cut in both directions and is a must-have feature.
The branch capacity is 3/4″ and that’s the standard baseline we like to see. Some residential models move up to 1″ and Pro models reach beyond that even. Realistically, 3/4″ is all you need, even if you neglect your hedge trimming for a season.
The blades slice away at 3200 SPM, a speed that matches some commercial-level cordless models.
When it comes to actually trimming hedges, we don’t have any complaints about the cutting performance. The knives make quick work of well-maintained shrubs. When it comes to those that don’t get as much attention, the blades keep their speed up well.
There’s no doubt that you can feel the weight of this tool, especially when you need to work at shoulder height. Without a battery, we weighed the Greenworks HT60B00 at 7.6 pounds. With our 4.0 Ah battery, it bulks up to 12.0 pounds.
The 2.0 Ah battery is the way to go on this model. It balances the weight much better, drops the weight by more than 1.5 pounds, and still gives you up to an hour of runtime.
Greenworks 60V Hedge Trimmer Design Notes
I really enjoy having a rotating handle on my hedge trimmers. It’s a big help when you’re trimming sides or angles and helps take some of the strain off of your back. To rotate the handle, drop your finger into the ring below the trigger and pull back. Then rotate the handle left or right into any of its 5 positions.
You need safety measures on battery-powered lawn care equipment and the Greenworks 60V Hedge Trimmer manages it without overcomplicating things. Simply press the trigger safety in on the handle and the trigger is hot. There’s no on/off switch to deal with or guide handle trigger to engage.
There are only so many ways to install a battery on a hedge trimmer and I’m not a big fan of side entry. I prefer to see it slide down from the top or in from the back. Greenworks’ design doesn’t throw off the side-to-side balance by going with side entry, but a different orientation can help slim down housing width.
Greenworks 60V Hedge Trimmer Price
If you’re already rocking on this battery platform, you can pick up the Greenworks 60V Hedge Trimmer for $119. The kit runs $199 with a 2.0 Ah battery and charger.
The Bottom Line
The Greenworks 60V Hedge Trimmer is simple to use and has the performance to tackle your regular hedge trimming. It’s a task made easier thanks to a rotating handle.
Even though the housing looks bulky, the weight is actually in the middle of the pack for cordless hedge trimmers. The price is right in the 60V Max-ish class and this rounds out the Greenworks 60V lineup well for homeowners.
