The Hearts of Stihl program seeks to care for the environment through the preservation of our state parks. The Hearts of Stihl mission aims to help both people and programs with grants that care for National State Parks so they can be preserved for all Americans to enjoy.
That sounds like a great program to us!
In 2022, the Hearts of Stihl program will provide six $20,000 grants. Each grant goes to one park located in each of the nation’s six regions (Northwest, North-Central, Central, Southwest, Northeast, and Southeast). The America’s State Parks Foundation will manage the $120,000 in grants. Parks can apply for funds to help projects related to sustainability, recovery, conservation, and more.
“For more than 15 years, Stihl has been privileged to support America’s State Parks. This program allows us to expand our efforts to help in the conservation and care of these national treasures. Hearts of STIHL is a natural extension of the Stihl commitment to caring for our environment and making it easier for people to work in and with nature.”
Roger Phelps, Stihl Inc. corporate communications manager
The History of the Hearts of Stihl Program
The Hearts of Stihl grants program expands Stihl’s relationship with America’s National State Parks. For over 10 years Stihl has sponsored the National Association of State Park Directors Leadership School. They provide scholarships for park personnel to attend.
“Stihl Inc. is a longtime supporter of the America’s State Parks, and we are eager to grow our relationship and offer grant funding to the state parks that need it most. The funding and resources awarded will have a direct impact on the care and preservation of our state parks and it is our hope these efforts will inspire a new generation to appreciate the great outdoors.”
Lewis Ledford, executive director at National Association of State Parks Directors
Back in 2021, the Hearts of Stihl program participated in planting over 2,000 trees in two western state parks. This was in response to the devastating effects of the 2020 wildfires. The project included men and women of the Oregon and California State Parks. It included training (and hazardous tree felling) by professional arborist and Stihl Inc. spokesperson Mark Chisholm . Even Chuck Leavell, musical director for the Rolling Stones and producer of the PBS television program America’s Forests with Chuck Leavell was part of the program.
