Having manually fired my share of staples, seeing a tool like the Milwaukee M18 Fuel Fencing Stapler (2843-22) instantly lights me up. It looks like a real time-saver for ranchers or homesteaders. Our chief question concerns whether or not it can truly save time and keep up with the demands of the job on a single battery.
Milwaukee M18 Fuel Fencing Stapler in a Nutshell
The Milwaukee 2843 fencing stapler fires stout 9-gauge staples. To date, we’ve only seen a couple of adept 9-gauge staplers. These include the Stockade ST400i which mixes battery and a gas cartridge to fire staples for posts and fence work. We also did significant hands-on testing with the DeWalt cordless fencing stapler . That tool, while slower overall, does everything using a single 20V battery pack.
Speed and Capacity
As part of the M18 Fuel tool line, the Milwaukee 2843 fencing stapler uses brushless motor technology to optimize its nailing performance. That also helps it with increasing runtime—which seems very impressive. Insert the included 3.0Ah High Output battery and Milwaukee cites as many as 600 staples before you have to recharge. That should equate to an entire day of work on the ranch. If you absolutely cruise through staples, you can carry an extra battery or use any of Milwaukee’s higher-capacity packs.
So not only do you get lots of runtime, but the tool is also quick. Compared to hammering, you should see a 6X increase in productivity when driving staples into posts. Even tougher posts and pressure-treated materials should provide little difficulty.
Milwaukee Fencing Stapler Ergonomics
We can’t help but note that the fencing stapler looks a bit different from the Milwaukee cordless framing nailer . The handle opens up wide for use with gloves—making it perfect in cold weather. There’s also a large lanyard loop in the event you want to tether the Milwaukee 2843-22. For utility workers using this on telephone polls, this feature is mandatory to protect those on the ground.
From our perspective, this tool looks particularly helpful for agriculture work. Our resident rancher, Eli Mosely , plans on using this tool to make some fencing additions and repairs. The Milwaukee fencing stapler should render that a much easier job than doing it by hand or using a gas tool.
Only Compatible with Milwaukee Staples
One important thing to note—this tool only works with Milwaukee brand staples. These staples feature a diamond crown shape that specifically works with this nailer’s drive system. When it comes to cordless staplers like this, we’re used to buying tool-specific staples.
Milwaukee 9-gauge staples come in 1 1/2, 1 3/4, and 2-inch lengths. Features include:
- Hot dipped galvanized
- Barbed and coated divergent legs
- Diamond crown design
- Only compatible with the Milwaukee 2843
