DeWalt FlexVolt 60V Max Outdoor Power Equipment

DeWalt recently announced its DeWalt FlexVolt 60V Max Outdoor Power Equipment line for residential and commercial construction professionals with the new 60V Max Chainsaw, Handheld Blower, and String Trimmer, all kitted with one FlexVolt 60V Max 3.0Ah battery (9.0Ah when used in 20V Max tools).

The DeWalt 60V Max Chainsaw is equipped with a brushless motor, a low kickback 16-inch Oregon bar and chain with auto-oiling, and a tool-free tensioning system for quick bar and chain adjustments.

The DeWalt 60V Max Handheld Blower (DCBL770X1) is equipped with a brushless motor, a flat concentrator nozzle, a variable speed trigger, and lock for throttle control without having to hold the trigger.

The DeWalt 60V Max String Trimmer (DCST970X1) features a 15-inch cut swath accepting 0.080-inch or 0.095-inch lines and a gear-drive transmission.

All three new items will be available in Spring 2017.

The FlexVolt System is backward compatible with most of the existing DeWalt 20V Max system. This means that the FlexVolt Batteries operate both the DeWalt FlexVolt 60V Max Outdoor Power Equipment as well as DeWalt 20V Max Power Tools. Our Take

One of the first questions I asked when I saw the DeWalt FlexVolt 60V Max Outdoor Power Equipment was “where does this fit?” DeWalt already has a Pro landscaper 40V Max line consisting of a blower, backpack blower, string trimmer, chainsaw, pole hedge trimmer, and hedge trimmer. They also have a 20V Max string trimmer, hedge trimmer, and blower for the construction Pro.

But does 60V Max bump up the landscaper line or add to the construction line?

It’s geared toward the construction Pro already using DeWalt FlexVolt tools that wants more power than the 20V Max line for clearing job sites and for use on their own property. The 40V Max line is still the Pro landscaper focus while the 60V Max tools will bolster the construction/property owner side.

Starting with the string trimmer, chainsaw, and blower while lacking a hedge trimmer, I’d venture out on a limb and say that this is more geared toward the construction Pro who has a need to clear brush and overgrowth from time to time. Will the line expand?

That remains to be seen. For now, the most comprehensive OPE line for DeWalt lies in its Pro landscaper 40V Max class.
