When the snow season approaches for the denizens of the colder climes, cleanup becomes an immediate concern. Shoveling snow is more than a drag. It can be a hazard, particularly for those with health conditions. Regardless, cleanup isn’t an option. A clear driveway means that you can go out for necessities or in the event of an emergency. Certainly, as homeowners, and also as OPE industry journalists, that’s what crosses our minds when we see equipment like the Craftsman SB230 Snow Blower.
So, let’s dive into this tool’s performance features and design to help you determine if it’s right for you.

Craftsman SB230 Snow Blower Performance
In this case, Craftsman built a gas-powered model. Driving the SB230 is a 123cc OHV engine.
Right away, one of the things we liked about this single-stage unit is that it has push-button electric start. In the middle of a heavy snowfall, or right after one, you don’t want to be pull-starting your engine. Save your daily workout for inside. For now, you have snow to clear.
Specs

While we’re on the topic of easy operation, we should point out that Craftsman didn’t equip the SB230 snow blower with a self-propelled drive system. Frankly, this could be a drawback in conditions where the snow is on the deep side.
That said, you also have to consider what the typical storm brings to your area. The SB230 is capable of clearing 21-inch swaths of snow up to 6 inches deep (ideally). If you’re in an area where depths are routinely greater, then a larger model is obviously the way to go.
Craftsman SB230 Snow Blower Design
On the design side, there are a few elements worth mentioning.
For one, this model’s polypropylene chute offers 190º of rotation. Also, the rubber auger is 9 inches in diameter. According to Craftsman, it provides enhanced grip, which should yield better results on icy surfaces.
