Black Diamond Paver Base Coat For Color Enhancement

Black Diamond Paver Base Coat

Many of you probably don’t realize that pavers will need maintenance to keep them looking sharp. We tend to take the “set it and forget it” approach to hardscapes, especially when it comes to pavers. Well, Black Diamond, a company out of Tampa, Florida, begs to differ with us. They claim that all pavers, old and new, could benefit from a little TLC, and they’ve developed a system for sealing porous hardscapes. The Black Diamond Paver Base Coat does just that. By using advanced color enhancing nanotechnology to block the pores, this solution should keep your pavers looking beautiful and protected for years to come.

What Black Diamond Has To Say About It

“Many of the new paver designs have more colors and textures, which can be more porous than pavers of years past, requiring more sealer to achieve the necessary protective coat. We designed the Paver PreTreat as a primer that fills the concrete paver pores and makes it easy to put a coat of any of our color enhancing sealers on top for the look and shine that boosts curb appeal and ease of ongoing maintenance.”

-David Warren, President of Black Diamond Coatings

How Does It Work?

Black Diamond Paver Base CoatSo, basically, you will use the Black Diamond Paver Base Coat as a pretreatment for color enhancing sealers; it acts as a primer. Black Diamond uses a bio-based formula that seals up the pores in your pavers. Black Diamond designed this formula to be used in conjunction with their Pro Tech Series SG+ (high-gloss to semi-gloss), LG+ (semi-gloss to low-gloss), or NG+ (low-gloss to no gloss) color enhancing sealers. Using the Paver Pretreatment eliminates the need to use multiple coats of the sealer.

Preparation is simple. You’ll want to make sure to clean your pavers prior to application, clearing them of any dirt, oil, efflorescence, or old sealer. As the Black Diamond Paver Base Coat can be applied to damp pavers, you can even clean the same day as applying the pretreatment. Black Diamond recommends that you use a backpack sprayer to apply their product.

You won’t need to dilute the pretreatment, and usually, you’ll only need to apply one smooth coat of the Paver Pretreat.  In 30-45 minutes, you’ll be ready to apply the color enhancement.
