Green Machine 62V Self-propelled Lawn Mower Review GMSM6200

Green Machine Targets High Value In Mid-Level Price Range

Green Machine has made a distinct showing at The Home Depot and many users wonder where this line of outdoor power tools falls. Is it Pro-focused, homeowner level, or somewhere in-between? We put both Green Machine 62V lawn mowers to the test to find out how they perform and who they might best fit.

Green Machine 62V Lawn Mowers Design Notes

Self-Propelled Drive System

When engaging the self-propelled mode on the higher-end Green Machine 62V lawn mower, a dial on the front handle sets the drive speed. Unfortunately, and surprisingly, Green Machine provides no separate drive engagement bar. On top of that this 62V lawnmower uses a rear-wheel-drive system.

Add it all together and you have no easy means of stopping the drive wheels when you turn the mower or reverse direction. You either slide that lever all the way to the left or struggle through it and fight the drive wheels. While they placed the dial conveniently, we hope (and expect) the design team fixes this in the next model.

self-propelled lawnmower controls

The push mower, lacking any self-propelled mechanism, has no particular difficulty making turns or being pulled in reverse as needed.

An “SP” button on the left side of the self-propelled model engages the self-propelled drive for transporting the mower without engaging the blades.

Single-Point Deck Height Adjustment

A large, single-point adjustment lever on the right rear wheel makes it easy to set the deck height. Green Machine gives you six heights between 1-1/4 inches and 3-3/4 inches.

Vertical Storage

Like nearly every battery-powered lawn mower except several by Makita, these Green Machine 62V lawn mowers store vertically. Twisting the detent knobs that let you adjust the handle height lets you also fold the handle forward. When they lock in place you can lift the mower and stand it up against a wall to save space.

LED Indicators

Behind the battery housing and facing the user, four LED indicators tell you about the battery and/or mower status. From left to right, they indicate:

  • Low battery
  • Error
  • High temperature
  • Power on

Additional Highlights

  • Simple push-button starting
  • Three handle height positions
  • 23-inch steel deck
  • 11-inch high rear wheels improve traction
  • Compatible with all Green Machine 62V batteries
  • Low noise, no emissions, no gas, and no oil

Green Machine 62V Lawn Mowers Performance

We tested both the Green Machine 62V push lawn mower and the self-propelled model. Aside from the drive system, both lawnmowers perform almost identically.

Green Machine GMSM6200 Lawn Mower

Green Machine uses a 62-volt brushless motor to power the 22-inch blade on each mower. 22-inches beats most standard battery-powered lawn mowers we’ve reviewed. We immediately noticed the Green Machine mower capably spun that longer blade and kept up the speed without any noticeable issues. Even in thick St. Augustine and tough patches of Bahia grass it kept up the speed.

Green Machine says to expect up to 45 minutes of runtime per 4.0Ah battery. Two batteries should get you up to 90 minutes and let you mow up to 1/2 acre. If you have extra thick grass or tend to wait too long between cuts, expect that time to drop.

Editor’s Note: The Green Machine 62V push mower comes with one battery while the self-propelled version includes two.

Both mowers let you mulch grass. You can also bag or do a true side discharge using an included attachment. For overgrown grass, the side discharge gives better distribution than many battery-powered models we’ve tested to-date.

Green Machine 62V Lawn Mowers Pricing

Green Machine’s entire cordless lineup is available exclusively at The Home Depot online. The self-propelled lawn mower runs $449 as a kit with two 4.0Ah batteries and a charger. The push mower is $329 with one 4.0Ah battery and a charger. When you order, they’ll ship it to your home or your local Home Depot for free.

Green Machine warranties their lawnmowers for 5 years while the batteries carry a 3-year warranty.

Considering what other brands charge for similar designs, Green Machine’s price makes for a compelling value.

The Bottom Line

For the price, Green Machine’s lawn mower options are worth taking a close look at. If you’re looking for a push mower, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better bang for the buck. It’s worth holding off on the self-propelled mower until they deal with the drive control, though. Once they do, Green Machine will be in a great position to earn the top value picks for both styles.
