Mulching and Pacing

So, it should come as no surprise that the two main talking points surrounding the Toro 21″ Personal Pace Super Recycler Mower come down to its self-propel drive system and its superior mulching.

We’ve had some experience with Toro’s Personal Pace system, and while it takes a little getting used to, it’s pretty effective. The handle control for the drive system slides forward as you apply more pressure, urging the mower forward faster. The idea here is that the faster you walk, the more pressure you’ll naturally apply to the handle until you and the mower move in sync. It has a top speed of 4.0 mph, so it’s tough to imagine that too many people’s natural gait will outrun this drive system.

Driven by a 160cc Honda GCV OHC engine (though there are other engines available in the line), the Toro has plenty of punch to drive the Super Recycler system. Toro’s technology uses an accelerator and kickers to keep the grass clippings suspended under the deck while the mulching blade trims them ever finer. The result is a mulched clipping that returns its nutrients back to the soil quicker, resulting in a healthier lawn.
