Cub Cadet SC500 EQ Mower

Cub Cadet Self-Propelled Mower Offers Signature Cut at a Low Decibel Level

We’ve got a bit of experience working with Cub Cadet mowers, and while most of that experience has revolved around the line of zero turns, we did fall in love with the SC 900 push mower model that we tested in our Best Self-Propelled Mower shootout. With that in mind, we’re taking a look at the Cub Cadet SC500 EQ . This push mower model boasts some of the features that we’ve grown to appreciate about the brand, as well as a few that were missing from the larger SC 900.

Quiet Mowing That Doesn’t Sacrifice Power

The Cub Cadet SC500 EQ features a 159cc Cub Cadet OHV Quiet engine. Two things about this seem noteworthy. First of all, the 159cc engine has enough power to keep the blade speed high. It doesn’t have quite as much power as the larger commercial model, but it should tackle the typical residential lawn without a hiccup.

What’s more, the engine also comes equipped with Smart Sound Technology, which Cub Cadet claims lowers the engine noise without sacrificing any power. For folks who care to get started mowing earlier in the day, this feature might go along way with your neighbors.

The Cub Cadet SC500 EQ mower also features the MySpeed Self-Propelled Drive system. At this point, quite a few manufacturers have employed a similar, on-the-fly drive speed adjustment. We’ve seen varying degrees of success. Cub Cadet’s is the smoothest we’ve used, letting us easily decelerate as we come to a turn, or accelerate naturally out of it.

Finally, the SC500 EQ features a push-button electric start. Though the SC900 had a simple, first-pull startup, it wasn’t as easy as walking up and pushing a button. Convenience matters. This model also features an auto-choke and SureStart guarantee. That guarantee basically says any able-bodied adult should be able to start the mower within one to two pulls If not, it ensures Cub Cadet will replace and repair the mower to get it back to manufacturer specs so that it does.

You can pick up the Cub Cadet SC500 EQ anywhere Cub Cadet mowers are sold. It retails for $449. To learn more about dealer locations and financing options, visit Cub Cadet by clicking here .
