EGO 56V 20-Inch Chainsaw CS2005

EGO 56V 20-inch chainsaw

For many years, gas was the only fuel option for a heavy-workload chainsaw–plain and simple. But, to invoke Bob Dylan’s lyrics, “Times, they are a-changin’.” Indeed, battery-powered gear has come a long way, and, believe me, that’s an understatement. Take, for example, EGO’s chainsaw lineup and, more specifically, the 20-inch 56V CS2005. This tool is the brand’s latest addition to its fleet and could signal a good year to come.

Of course, the main question is whether it has what you need to tackle jobs demanding a 20-inch bar. OPE Reviews is going to help you decide.

EGO 56V 20-inch Chainsaw Performance

Starting at the heart of the CS2005 is a brushless motor fueled by a 56V (6.0Ah) battery. The result is a fair amount of power–the equivalent of a 55cc gas unit. For added context, that’s in the ballpark for moderately heavy work, which is good in this case.

After all, this is the brand’s largest capacity model to date. According to EGO, the chainsaw’s kitted 56V battery, combined with the 20-inch bar, should deliver 135 cuts on 6×6 wood per charge.

Specs

  • Model: EGO CS2005
  • Battery: 56V (6.0Ah)
  • Brushless motor
  • Bar length: 20 inches
  • Power equivalent to 55cc gas chainsaw
  • Up to 135 cuts on 6×6 wood
  • Max chain speed: 25 m/s

And, as a 20-inch model, the CS2005 has a cutting capacity of 18 inches, which is ideal for felling trees, managing large branches, and removing tree stumps . It has a no-load chain speed of up to 25 m/s. Moreover, it has all of this without the stink of 2-stroke additive.

Now, I should also mention that this line of EGO’s chainsaw offerings features an omnidirectional auto chain brake sensor. For added safety, it works in tandem with the kickback brake to stop the chain rotation in a variety of orientations.

  • Digital display
  • LED work light
  • IPX4 rating
  • 3/8-inch pitch
  • .050-inch gauge chain
  • 69 drive links

One thing that I have always liked about EGO’s gear is their consistent inclusion of digital displays, even on equipment that, traditionally, doesn’t have them. And, make no mistake, it’s not about looks or flashy gadgetry.

When you’re working with battery-powered variants like EGO’s 56V 20-inch chainsaw, you have a host of function parameters that you need to monitor. Especially on a tool with a razor-lined chain, having this information at a glance is essential. Please keep your eyes on the task at hand–your limbs will thank you.

Additionally, if you’re working into the dusky hours, the CS2005 has an LED work light, boosting its already comprehensive safety features.

Finally, an IPX4 rating protects it against water splashes, so you don’t have to run from the first sign of raindrops.

Pros

  • Substantial power for a cordless unit
  • 20-inch bar
  • Solid runtime and cutting capacity
  • Helpful features, such as an LED status display and work light
