Key Features

Power Plant

There are a few talking points surrounding the Husqvarna LC221RH. The first is that Husqvarna uses a Honda GCV 160 engine onto the mower. These engines are known for their relatively low decibel levels, as well as their easy startup.

The 160cc power plant is right in line with mowers in the same class from Honda, Toro, and Cub Cadet, among others.

Self-Propelled System

This model also features a unique rear wheel drive system. Dual speed controls allow for independent control over the speed of the rear wheels. This allows you to customize your cuts according to the conditions of the lawn.

By pulling the handles in slightly, you can vary the speed up to full very similar to the way a variable speed trigger works on a power tool. Cordless mowers can do that electronically, but gas mowers have to work with the mechanical belt systems, so it’s a different experience.

There’s also an adjustment on the cable coming out of the control box. It gives you some control over your top speed if you need to recalibrate it over time.

Clean Up

The Husqvarna LC221RH features a water hose port for spraying out the underside of your cutting deck when you’re done mowing. Simply attach your garden hose to the port on the mower, then turn on the faucet while the blade is spinning. Let everything run for a few minutes to clean out the clippings from the undercarriage.

4-Point Height Adjustment

The one thing I’m not crazy about is the 4-point wheel adjustment. It’s not fun to work around all four wheels to get them all set. Once you get the height you like, you’re not going to be adjusting it often, so I can live with it.

Additional Husqvarna LC221RH Features

  • Heavy-duty one-piece powder-coated steel cutting deck
  • Handle designed with storage and convenience in mind
  • Cutting height max 4 In.
  • Cutting height min 1 In.
  • Speed forward max 3 mph
  • Bag, mulch, or rear discharge
  • Bagger made of dust blocker fabric

Price

Husqvarna’s $409.95 price (~$380 online) is competitive with its engine and feature set. You can go up or down in price as you match different engines, bump up to 4-wheel drive, or get a slightly larger mowing deck, but the LC221RH is pretty much in the sweet spot of all of that.
