Greenworks Pro 60V 16-Inch String Trimmer Review| ST60L210

Greenworks Pro String Trimmer Centers Around Homeowner Convenience

The Greenworks Pro line of OPE focuses on a balance between power and runtime that keeps the discerning homeowner in mind. The 60V suite of tools includes mowers, blowers, snowthrowers, chainsaws, and more. But, perhaps no tool in the lineup embraces the Greenworks Pro ethos as much as the 60V string trimmer does.

Performance

One of the highlights of the Greenworks Pro 60V trimmer is the 16-inch cutting swath. Almost all of the string trimmers that we looked at in our recent Best Battery-Powered Weedeater Roundup, Pro models and DIY models alike, cut with a 15-inch diameter or less. The only exceptions were the Husqvarna 520iLX and Makita XRU18 which really target the Pro and this Greenworks Pro that the brand has designated its homeowner line. Greenworks has an 82V Commercial line that targets professional applications.

Greenworks uses 0.080″ line, which is pretty much industry standard for electric string trimmers in the homeowner sector. We kind of like the option to jump up to the 0.095″ line for the better line durability, but the Greenworks Pro 60V string trimmer has been optimized for this lighter gauge line. Anything thicker will adversely affect the tool’s performance and runtime.

And, speaking of runtime, the Greenworks Pro 60V String Trimmer delivered some of the better performance we had seen in the recent roundup. Under no-load, and running in High speed, the brushless motor hummed along for 34.3 minutes at 5974 RPM. This impressed us considering the battery that comes with this trimmer is the smaller 2.0Ah size.

Load N’ Go

One of the highlights of the Greenworks Pro string trimmer has to do with the Load N’ Go trimmer head.

Don’t do what I did at first and miss the clear indicator arrows on the bottom of the head. Those need to be lined up before you add your string.

Once you line up the arrows on the bump head, the inserts of the outer casings match up with the inserts on the inner spool. Then, restringing the head and ratcheting the line back to a usable length takes just seconds. From there, it’s your typical bump feed trimmer head.

High and Low Speeds, Variable Speed Trigger

Greenworks throws a couple of speed settings onto the Pro 60V string trimmer. You toggle them via a handy thumb switch. I found this helpful. In the Low setting, I could manage the vast majority of grassy overgrowth and weeds without burning through my battery so fast. When I needed some extra “oomph” to get through some stubborn grass runners while edging, dropping the trimmer into High gear proved helpful.

Additionally, this string trimmer includes a variable speed trigger. One wonders if this feature is a bit overkill until you come across an unfortunately located anthill. At this point, not spraying ants and dirt all over your pant legs is possible, simply by not throttling up to max.

Weight and Balance

The Greenworks Pro string trimmer weighs in at a very reasonable 10.69 lbs., which includes the battery. Compared to what we’ve seen recently, this falls into the middle range of most battery-powered trimmers. Because of a nice battery pack layout and ergonomics, this trimmer still feels very manageable and agile in both trimming and edging positions.

The balance of the tool can explain some of this maneuverability. The battery weight offsets the weight of the head nicely, and any imbalance can be adjusted by moving the handle up and down the shaft. You won’t need tools here; rather, the handle can be tightened or loosened with a thumb dial. Every weed wacker handle should adjust this easily!

One minor sticking point: Tom Gaige, who conducts a good amount of our in-house testing, noted that the top-loaded battery position rubbed uncomfortably against his arm. Personally, I didn’t really have this issue, but it might be worth noting. If you do run into this issue, a long sleeve t-shirt will likely remedy the problem.

Pricing and Warranty

The Greenworks Pro 60V String Trimmer comes with a 4-year warranty on both the trimmer and the battery. You can pick up the kit—including a 2.0Ah battery and charger—for just $189. This presents an excellent value. The tool warranty falls into the median range for what we’re seeing for battery-powered string trimmers, but the 4-year battery warranty is among the best out there. This kit is one of the least expensive options available.
