Troy-Bilt Bronco 42 Lawn Tractor Takes Cutting to the Next Level

Troy-Bilt is no stranger to outdoor power equipment. They’ve been around for more than three-quarters of a century. And, as always, there are interesting stories behind such well-known monikers. Originally a tiller manufacturer called Rototiller, Inc., the company became embroiled in a trademark battle in 1967. So, they changed their name to Troy-Bilt after the town of Troy, New York, where they were based. Fast-forward 56 years, and they’re still churning out lawn and garden equipment like the Bronco 42 Lawn Tractor.

Let’s see what it’s got.

Bronco 42 Lawn Tractor Performance

Kicking things off under the hood, this lawn tractor has a 19 HP, 544cc single-cylinder Briggs and Stratton Intek engine. Based on our experience, Briggs engines demonstrate marked reliability.

For example, they tend to start well even after sitting for long periods, and this applies to both push mowers and lawn tractors. Now, if you’re not already familiar with the Intek Series, these engines are more efficient and powerful, according to Troy-Bilt.

In terms of operation, the word is that driving this model is “as easy as driving a car.” It has an automatic transmission with an accelerator-style foot pedal and an 18-inch turn radius to enhance control.

What’s more, it uses a twin-blade, side discharge deck intended for quick, clean cuts. There’s also an optional mulching kit.

Finally, this model comes equipped with automatic headlights for evening mowing.

Bronco 42 Design

This 42-inch lawn tractor has a number of design features worth considering. For example, the deck rolls on anti-scalp wheels.

Also, Troy-Bilt gave the Bronco 42 a step-thru frame designed to give this lawn tractor easier on-and-off access and more legroom.

Lastly, you’ll find a mid-back seat with rubber foot pads to lessen vibration and bolster comfort.
