Worx Hydroshot 40V Cordless Power Cleaner Review WG644

PTR Review
  • Overall Rating 9.0

The Worx Hydroshot 40V 450 PSI cordless power cleaner is great for light cleaning tasks but you don't want to tackle an entire driveway. That's not the kind of work it's designed for. It's useful for cleaning with much more pressure than you can get from a hose nozzle but where a pressure washer might be too strong or where you don't have access to a pressurized water source.

Overall Score 9.0 (out of 10)

Worx Hydroshot Max 40V (2x20V) 450 PSI Power Cleaner…

We had a wave of power cleaners flood into our shop. Among the arrivals was the Worx Hydroshot Max 40V Powershare 450 PSI cordless power cleaner. The 450 PSI generated by this 2 x 20V system might not seem like much, especially if you’re comparing it to the best pressure washers . However, if you keep an open mind, you might just find that it’s a lot more versatile than it looks.

Pros

  • Highly portable
  • No garden hose required—use any fresh water source
  • Two pressure settings
  • 4 nozzle settings
  • Runs off existing Worx 20V batteries

Cons

  • Nozzle adjustment is a little clunky

Worx Hydroshot Max 40V 450 PSI Cordless Power Cleaner Performance

Cleaning Power

The 40V Hydroshot is Worx’s second most powerful cordless power cleaner in the PowerShare family and a significant step up from their original model. It blasts up to 450 PSI and 0.9 GPM through its versatile 4-in-1 pressure nozzle.

Worx HydroShot Power Cleaner Nozzle

We cycled through the nozzle settings to test this sprayer’s capabilities. Set to 15°, we easily cleared some algae build-up on our vinyl siding. Kicked up to 40°, it’s powerful and gentle enough to give my truck a much-needed wash without the risk of paint damage!

You also get 0° and 25°, giving you a total of four nozzle settings.

Compared to what else is out there, the 450 PSI is in the middle (most pressure cleaners run 300 – 600 PSI) and the water flow is right about average. If you want even more cleaning power without turning to a full pressure washer, the Worx Hydroshot Ultra has 725 PSI—the highest we’ve seen on this type of tool.

Water Sources

One of the biggest benefits to owning a power washer such as the Worx Hydroshot 40V is the ability to use a siphon hose when there’s no place to connect a garden hose. Stick the siphon hose in a bucket, rain barrel, swimming pool, or even the lake. If it’s a fresh water source, you’re good to go. So take it RVing, mountain biking, boating, or wherever you could use some portable cleaning.

Runtime

We often find that people have concerns about runtime when deciding to cut the cord. At high pressure, we managed to get almost 14 minutes of continuous trigger time during our runtime test, using the 40° nozzle. That should be plenty of time to rinse off the boat after a long day out on the bay, and then some!

If you do happen to need more time, particularly when you’re rinsing, kick the Hydroshot into low power mode and you’ll extend that runtime. You can also jump up to 4.0Ah batteries and double your runtime in the stronger mode.

Worx Hydroshot Max 40V Cordless Power Cleaner Design Notes

Size and Weight

The Worx 40V cordless power cleaner measures 32.5 inches in length, just a little shorter than a standard residential pressure washer wand. This is a very manageable size, and at just 6.63 pounds with a pair of 2.0Ah batteries, you should be able to finish your tasks without too much fatigue.

Worx HydroShot Power Cleaner Size

Ergonomics

Like we just mentioned, this power cleaner is very similar to a traditional pressure washer wand in both size and shape. The rear over-mold grip features a 4-finger paddle-style trigger and a thumb-safety switch. The large paddle trigger is really going to save your hands, especially when you’re working for an extended time.

Electricity And Water

I think we all know by now that water and electricity don’t typically get along. The Worx power cleaner features a rubber gasket in the exterior battery bays to protect against splashes, but there’s no physical door to enclose them as other power washers use.

Battery

Worx Hydroshot Max 40V Cordless Power Cleaner Price

You can snag your very own Worx 40V cordless power cleaner kit for $175 or less. The kit includes two 2.0Ah batteries and a dual-port charger. If you’re already on the Worx 20V platform, there is a bare tool option available for $129.99. Either way, the tool has a 5-year warranty.

The Bottom Line

The Worx Hydroshot 40V 450 PSI cordless power cleaner is great for light cleaning tasks but you don’t want to tackle an entire driveway. That’s not the kind of work it’s designed for. It’s useful for cleaning with much more pressure than you can get from a hose nozzle but where a pressure washer might be too strong or where you don’t have access to a pressurized water source.

Here are a handful of things you can safely clean (and there’s a lot more!):

  • Vehicles
  • Boats
  • ATVs/UTVs
  • Muddy boots
  • Wicker or outdoor furniture
  • Bikes
  • Screens

If you do find yourself needing a bit more power, consider stepping up to one of Worx’s Electric Pressure Washers! These will provide more muscle and faster cleaning when it comes time to tackle those more demanding home projects.
