Smart Creep for CAT D3 Series Loaders

CAT Compact Track Loaders and Skid Steers Maximize Productivity with Smart Creep

The CAT D3 Series Compact Track Loaders and Skid Steer Loaders will now feature the brand’s smart creep technology. Designed to boost productivity, this technology optimizes the performance of cold planer and wheel saw attachments. Basically, the smart creep feature senses the load on the attachment and automatically adjusts the drive command to keep your cold planer or wheel saw running at the most productive speed.

How Does CAT Smart Creep Work?

The CAT Smart Creep feature uses a combination of attachment sensors and proprietary software to balance the attachment load with the machine speed. By continually sensing the load on the attachment, smart creep increases machine speed when encountering less resistance. It automatically slows the machine when encountering a higher load. The engine load remains constant, and the operator can monitor hydraulic pressure on the in-cab display panel.

Smart creep takes any guess work out of setting the right creep speed for operating the attachment. Without smart creep, setting the creep speed too fast can lead to stalling the attachment. Too slow of a speed results in productivity loss. Smart creep software efficiently determines the best machine speed for cutting conditions.

With the CAT smart creep feature, the operator only needs to activate the standard creep control system and set the maximum creep speed on the display inside the cab. Once the tool engages in the cut, smart creep measures the attachment load and adjusts the drive command automatically. In the event of a jam, an auto reverse feature changes the direction to allow the jam to clear.

Availability

CAT plans to target availability for smart creep on the D3 SSL and CTL machines for the third quarter of 2022. A field installation kit consisting of sensors and machine software for operating the new feature will become available for existing fleet loaders and attachments. Once available, new cold planer and wheel saw purchases will ship from the factory with the required hardware installed. New D3 SSL and CTL models will come with smart creep factory installed.
