We’ve reviewed quite a few chainsaws, with the most recent collection appearing on our Best Chainsaw Reviews list. Of the many brands we’ve handled, HART has been quite aggressive with their entry into the high-powered cordless equipment landscape. And among those models leading the chainsaw line is the 40V HART Supercharge (HLCS041VNM).
Let’s take a look at what it’s got, and see how it fits into the market’s overall expectations.
HART 40V Chainsaw Performance
First, we have the core of the HLCS041VNM. Driving this HART chainsaw is a brushless motor powered by a 40V (6.0Ah) battery. Now, we’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: the brushless motor should be an industry standard by this point. They’re more efficient, quieter, longer lasting, and, overall, more powerful. So, we’re happy that HART went with that motor design.
In fact, when it comes to power, HART says that the 18-inch Supercharge cuts 4 times faster than the earlier brushed motor model, the HLCS031. So, this helps make our case in the matter of brushless vs. brushed.
- Model: HART HLCS041VNM
- Brushless motor
- Battery: 40V (6.0Ah)
- Bar length: 18 in
- Cut capacity: 32 in
- Auto oiling
- Weight: 12.7 lbs
Furthermore, they tell us that the HLCS041VNM is comparable to a 38cc gas equivalent. While this isn’t up there with Prosumer cordless saws, it’s not bad for the residential consumer in search of a general-purpose model.
For example, the HART 40V Supercharge chainsaw is what we typically describe as a homeowner tool that’s perfect for felling smallish trees, cutting logs, and limbing. Indeed, part of this versatility is due to the 18-inch bar. In our opinion, that’s a great length. For one, it’s manageable–not too big, not too small. Moreover, you’ll get a solid cutting capacity.
Finally, recharging the battery is quick and, as such, lessens downtime. That’s thanks to the HLCS041VNM’s rapid charger, which restores the pack in about an hour.
HART 40V Chainsaw Design
For the most part, this tool is relatively lightweight, at 12.7 pounds.
What’s more, HART was safety-minded with this 40V chainsaw (as they should be), adding a chainbrake. On top of that, auto oiling is a convenient feature that minimizes the chainsaw’s maintenance needs. However, we would like to see toolless tensioning on future iterations.
And although it’s not a deal maker, the carrying case is a nice touch. It has built-in storage for your 40V battery to keep it with your chainsaw between uses.
HART HLCS041VNM Price
This chainsaw retails as a kit for $348 and comes with a 40V (6.0Ah) battery, a rapid charger, a scabbard, a combination wrench, and a carrying case.
