EGO’s lineup for late 2023 and 2024 is extensive and, quite frankly, exciting. Indeed, we attended their sneak-peek event at last fall’s Equip Expo in Louisville, KY, where they unveiled several models. One of them was the EGO 56V Earth Auger (EG0803). EGO 56V Earth Auger Performance
First, the EG0803 runs on a 56V (4.0Ah) battery–part of EGO’s cross-compatible Power+ platform. While we’re still fond of gas equipment, cordless gear has some unique advantages.
For one, you can wave goodbye to fumes and stink. Moreover, compared to the early days of batteries, tools like EGO’s 56V earth auger deliver gas-equivalent power. In this case, we’re talking about 65 ft-lbs of torque; enough to bore through rocky ground.

Battery power has also made strides in runtime. According to EGO, the EG0803 should give you as many as 50 holes per charge. Of course, this will vary slightly according to the ground you’re working on. Either way, you’ll experience minimal downtime, particularly if you have an extra battery on deck.

In terms of design, we’ll start with ergonomics. Specifically, we like the EG0803’s handles, which allow for a firm, balanced grip. What’s more, the controls are right at your fingertips. You can manage the digging speed using a thumb dial on the right handle.
And let’s not forget about safety. EGO equipped its 56V earth auger with anti-kickback protection. Most importantly, this guards against jams that could potentially cause damage or, worse, injury.
You’ll also find indicators for overload protection and kickback prevention, as well as battery level.
Finally, we’re glad to see that the EG0803 has a universal bit connection compatible with ice and earth bits, providing versatility in various conditions.
