You might remember a couple years ago, we had the chance to review one of the best, if not the best, cordless walk-behind mowing solutions on the market at the time, the EGO self-propelled lawn mower. And, to be fair, in the two years since this product was released, we’re still hard-pressed to find a better battery-powered mower in this class. So how do you get more runtime from the EGO self-propelled mower? Add another battery! Thus, the new EGO Dual Battery Lawn Mower is born.

EGO Dual Battery Lawn Mower Improvements
The notable improvement made here revolves around the mower’s ability to run off of two batteries instead of one. It not only runs off two batteries, but it also runs off a single battery. EGO implemented their PeakPower technology to improve runtime and energy efficiency. Although the EGO dual battery lawn mower comes as a kit, with two 5.0Ah batteries and a charger, any EGO PowerPlus 56V batteries apply. That means that if you’re already working on the EGO platform, your existing batteries will work to power this new mower as well.
The Classic Features You Know And Love
The EGO dual battery lawn mower features a 21″ poly cutting deck with some solid self-propulsion. A variable speed control allows the user to throttle down to 1.8 MPH or up to 3.6 MPH. It also has six cutting height positions for a custom cut. Users can select cutting heights anywhere between 1.5″ – 4″, raising or lowering the deck with one hand. Clippings can be mulched or bagged.
Additionally, the new EGO mower features six handlebar positions to accommodate a variety of user heights. When finished with the job, the handlebars fold over the base so that the mower can store away without taking up a lot of space.
Performance and Runtime
Runtimes for recent battery-powered push mowers we’ve reviewed stopped short of 30-minutes, and they didn’t include self-propulsion. Runtime for the EGO Dual Battery lawn mower eclipsed the hour mark, finally stopping at 1:08:24. To prepare for runtime testing, we used our Exmark Radius X-Series Zero Turn to mow the field at 4-inches, then we set the EGO mower deck height to #3.
We set the self-propelled variable speed controller to the speed of a brisk walk. After mowing for the 1-hour and 8-minutes, we cut more than 16,500 square-feet. One-hundred feet wide by one-hundred-sixty-five feet long, which equates to greater than 3/8 of an acre. Seeing that the average home in the US today sits on less than 1/4 acre, the EGO Dual Battery lawn mower will have no problem with this task.
Final Words
The EGO dual battery lawn mower retails for $749 at your local Home Depot, and it comes with two 5.0 Ah batteries and rapid charger. Additionally, it comes with EGO’s 5-Year limited warranty. This is a great mower with plenty of runtime for even the above-average lawn; however, you do pay the price. Features, runtime, and 5-year warranty make this a good value, even at $749. For five years, there’s no worry of gas, oil, filters, service, etc. Still, if the price is too high, EGO has a solution with the single-battery self-propelled unit.
